Reading Plus believes in continuous positive feedback and tangible rewards that assist students in achieving academic milestones. We do testing and report writing with an emphasis on explaining root causes and making detailed recommendations for dyslexia and language learning differences. We have 20 years of experience in the areas of pre-reading, reading, English, Advanced Grammar, and dyslexia. We currently are working with public schools, private schools, and directly with parents.
We use professional, established guidelines, such as Lindamood-Bell Programs, to assist clients who have auditory processing and oral language issues. We have recently added the Wilson Language System to the list of available resources. We employ a breadth of knowledge to create programs that develop cognitive long-term memory; build sound/symbol associations, and word attack abilities. We also create exercises in decoding, blending, and spelling patterns, which are the syntax for exemplary writing models.
Reading Plus is the vision and passion of our president, Ginny Garrison. She believes we should help students with varied tools depending upon their particular needs, making them special and unique, not special and needy. She understands that self-esteem issues often come from a child’s “difficulties”, but “God doesn’t make mistakes when He gives us gifts”, and we should look upon these “difficulties” as areas needing additional care and support. She understands that the help and tools we give our children will determine how they grow in these adversities.
Ginny Garrison has a Masters degree in writing and literature from the University of Texas, Austin. She is a Nationally Certified Dyslexia Therapist through ALTA and IMSLEC, and has Alphabetic Phonics/ Basic Language Skills training in reading, spelling, comprehension, fluency, and writing.
