2002 Letters from the Chairman

A NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION - December, 2002 (a special letter from Noel Adams, Brett's wife)

The holidays are upon us again, that time of year when home school moms breathe a collective sigh of relief. Ahhh… no algebra, no grammar, no salt dough maps that don't turn out, no paint from your 1st grader's project in your toddler's hair. We can focus on baking cookies, wrapping gifts, spending time with the kids....Read the Rest of the LetterBack to top of the pageContinue to November 2002 Letter

Giving Thanks - November, 2002

"Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." (I Th 5:16-18)

There is much to be thankful for right now. I am thankful for the two hands that hang at my sides. With them, I am able to accomplish much of what I am called to do: take dominion over this earth, serve the body and protect and hold my loved ones. I recently came upon a man in a public restroom that had no hands. I am quite thankful for my hands....Read the Rest of the LetterBack to top of the pageContinue to October 2002 Letter

Just Call Me Jones - October, 2002

This weekend saw me operating at both ends of our family's spectrum. It began as a camping trip with my oldest son (11), where we hiked over ten miles, took a moonlit dip in the raging Pedernales, fished the banks with cool new lures and fended vicious raccoons off of our supplies. Spending time drawing my sons into manhood is one of the hats I am beginning to wear more often these days. But that was just Friday and Saturday....Read the Rest of the LetterBack to the top of the pageContinue to September 2002 Letter

Standing Vigil - September, 2002

vig-il n. A period of alert watchfulness during normal sleeping hours.

Wives: tear out this letter and put it on the top of your husband's underwear drawer. I am chagrined to find that my monthly letter does not get this treatment on a regular basis - but this one is a must read for heads of home schooling households....Read the Rest of the LetterBack to the top of the pageContinue to August 2002 Letter

Next year in Jerusalem! (ok, Palmer) - August, 2002

Thanks to all of you for making our summer conference a resounding success! It is truly wonderful to see so many of you at the conference, and to be reminded of the importance of what we do. Even though we had about half of the exhibition space from our normal digs at Palmer, we had a bigger turnout this year than last. We are pleased… and your support allows us to continue on. Thank you!...Read the Rest of the LetterBack to the top of the pageContinue to June 2002 Letter

Camping - June, 2002

My father was (and still is) both frugal and an Eagle scout. It is most likely the latter that influenced our summer vacations the most. Eschewing the popular resorts and hotels, my family would go camping each summer. After all, you get to tromp through the woods, play with fire, stay up late, eat junk food and sleep outside. This being summertime, the subject of camping deserves further exploration....Read the Rest of the LetterBack to the top of the pageContinue to May 2002 Letter

Summer - May, 2002

Once a month, CHEACT holds Home School information meetings that are open to the public. For some of you, that was your first introduction into home schooling. I am always amazed at the variety of situations that compel folks to home school. Everyone has their own goals in mind when they first walk in, but are amazed to discover how many options there are when they join us on this side of the line. ...Read the Rest of the LetterBack to the Top of the PageContinue to April 2002 Letter

Public Librarians - April, 2002

Most months are busy here at CHEACT, and this one was no exception. Plans have been made for our Annual Used Curriculum Sale in May (Thank you, Annette Anderson!) and exhibitors are lining up for our summer conference. I had the opportunity to join Tim Lambert (Texas Home School Coalition) as he addressed a gathering of twenty central Texas Librarians, representing the Austin Public Library system, as well as libraries in Cedar Park and Round Rock. The day before, Tim had addressed another group that included Bastrop. ...Read the Rest of the LetterBack to the Top of the PageContinue to March 2002 Letter

Summer Conference Time - March, 2002

Greetings!

Since last summer, we have been busy here at CHEACT trying to line up the particulars of the 2002 Summer Home School Teacher's Conference. After a few false starts with other facilities, we have now secured the Promise Land Church as the venue for our largest conference of the year. ...Read the Rest of the LetterBack to the Top of the PageContinue to February 2002 Letter

Home School High School - February, 2002

Greetings!

Thanks to everyone who helped to make this year's winter conference a success! Special thanks to Darla Jackson for organizing the entire conference, and for each Board member who worked to make it run smoothly. In addition, thanks to each of the other volunteers who helped set up, record a session, tear down and everything else that makes our conferences serve our community better. ...Read the Rest of the LetterBack to the Top of the PageContinue to 2001 Letter Archives
