What's Your Story?!?March 2003 It has been a few weeks since the CHEACT Winter Conference. From what I can tell, there are more than a few men that have reevaluated their approaches to home schooling and parenting at large. I am hearing great stories of changed lives and new resolve to take our role as seriously as God does. From a sheer numbers perspective, this was our most successful winter conference weekend ever. There were 60 support group leaders that met for a banquet in their honor on the Friday night on the eve of the conference. It was good time to get acquainted with new leaders in our region, and to get reacquainted with men and women who have been in leadership since the beginning days of CHEACT. During that time, we began to develop connections as a larger community of leaders that were not present before. We want to fan those flames into a strong support network for those who are giving their time to encourage and help home schools all across our region. This event was honoring to everyone and smooth in operation due to the work of the Werner family. As a team, they made sure everyone was served and that all of the mechanics of the evening stayed behind-the-scenes. It was truly a blessing to watch this family in action. Thank you! Saturday morning saw over 70 men - and an encouraging number of sons - gather for a breakfast and a great group discussion of what home schooling success is, and what home schooling fathers need to make this happen in our homes. Many thanks to my good friend Don Capo for organizing everything from the catering to the presentation and the (wonderfully large) meeting facilitation. As many of you know, CHEACT stopped holding monthly membership meetings when attendance waned to a handful of people each month. Based on the great showing at these two meetings, the Board saw that there are indeed ways to meet to help each of us connect in effective ways. Besides these two events, we had a record number of well over 400 people for general conference attendance. By far our best-attended winter conference ever. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help make this conference a success. Special thanks to our Conference Coordinator, Annette Haralson, who quietly gets the job done with excellence, every time. Great Job! It is encouraging to see the follow-on men's group that started meeting weekly after the winter conference. For more information, check out our web site (http://www.cheact.org). We would like to hear your stories from the conference. If your vision for your family has been challenged, changed or strengthened as a result of the conference proceedings, would you please send me a letter or an email (chairman@cheact.org) and tell us how the weekend impacted your family? We want to rejoice with you and make sure that CHEACT continues to support you as you endeavor to home school for the Glory of God. Awaiting your reply,
