Next year in Jerusalem!
(OK, Palmer)
August 2002
Thanks to all of you for making our summer conference
a resounding success! It is truly wonderful to see so many of you at the
conference, and to be reminded of the importance of what we do. Even though
we had about half of the exhibition space from our normal digs at Palmer,
we had a bigger turnout this year than last. We are pleased… and your
support allows us to continue on. Thank you!
We have received more than the normal amount
of feedback about our guest speaker. OK. A LOT more. By far, the positive
feedback outweighs the other, but the constructive comments we received
are good too. We are always looking at ways to serve you better.
It may help to explain how conferences fit into
our overall mission. As you recall, the salient part of our mission is
to "Safeguard, promote and encourage home schooling for the glory of God
in central Texas." While that is a mouthful, it is very succinct to us
at CHEACT. We want our home schools to glorify God ("HSTGG"), and to help
raise that standard across central Texas.
While we do not endorse any exhibitor or speaker
that participates in our conferences, we do screen them carefully. We
will take steps to ensure that these events remain a viable resource to
help you HSTGG. To those of you who loved Susan, great! There are many
of you who are adopting her ideas and recommendations into bringing about
your vision for your home school.
For those who do not see how her approach could
help you HSTGG, that is great too! By providing popular speakers at our
conferences, we hope to provide you with the tools you need to think critically
about your approach to home schooling. If there is growing trend in the
home schooling community, we will do our best to bring it in front of
you, our members, so you can get a first-hand look and have your questions
answered directly. That will help us all HSTGG.
The Board takes its collective hat off to Annette
and David Haralson. Through many late-night hours, they helped us succeed
under a very challenging set of circumstances. Their superb organization
and leadership skills are an asset to us all. Not bad for a first conference,
eh? This one went off without a single hitch. Great Job!
Thanks also to each of you who volunteered your
time. Exhibitors were very appreciative of the help you gave. Seminars
ran smoothly. You were the oil that kept our conference machine rolling.
If there were things you really liked about
the conference, please send us email to conferences@cheact.org.
If there are things you'd like to see in the future, send them along as
well. And we are always looking for folks who would volunteer to help
organize and run our next conference.
Put June 27 & 28 on your calendar for next year.
We will be back at Palmer (actually, the new Lester E. Palmer Events Center).
Plenty of parking and a brand new exhibition floor (with cold air conditioning)
will get us back on track. While that may seem like a long way away to
you, we have already begun the planning.
Yours,

Brett
