Since last summer, we have been busy here at CHEACT trying to line up the particulars of the 2002 Summer Home School Teacher's Conference. After a few false starts with other facilities, we have now secured the Promise Land Church as the venue for our largest conference of the year.

Many of you are familiar with the Promise Land as the location of our popular annual Winter Conferences. We have contracted for all the space we normally have for these events, as well as additional exhibit space and an 800-seat auditorium to accommodate nationally known author and speaker, Susan Wise Bauer - coauthor of "The Well-Trained Mind, a Guide to Classical Education at Home".

We will be offering over sixty booths, and will be managing conference content closely to ensure the highest value to you. If you come to shop, you will find what you need. If you come to learn, we'll have a fabulous keynote speaker, as well as many other seminars and workshops to help you on your home school journey. If you bring a "newbie" friend, we will help them on their way. Best of all, we will have PLENTY of parking this year! On a related topic, it is with mixed emotions that we say goodbye to Darla Jackson for her many years of service on the CHEACT Board. First, as the Publicity Officer, Darla was responsible for our mainstay CHEACT Chronicles. After giving tirelessly as the newsletter editor, she stepped up to the new Conferences Officer position last February, and led us through two successful conferences. I could not begin to list the many details that Darla has taken care of. We will all feel her absence and miss her warm smile. Besides serving with excellence, she is a wonderful team member. Volunteers like Darla make CHEACT work for all of us. Thank You Darla and blessings to you and your family as you pursue your new career.

…and when there is a need, God sends along another servant to stand in the gap. Please welcome Annette Haralson as our new Conference Coordinator. Annette has agreed to take on the upcoming summer conference, and is already off and running to organize another successful conference for Central Texas home schoolers. Thank you, Annette, for stepping into this critical role! If you would like to help, we can always use willing hands and servant hearts. So, things are shaping up for the last half of the school year. We've got Support Group Leaders gatherings, a Graduation ceremony, a Used Curriculum sale in the works and our annual Summer Conference well underway. Please take advantage of these opportunities, and come join us in our service to God as we lock arms together and honor our obligation to steward over these young lives that He has entrusted to us.
