Home School High School
February, 2002 Greetings! Thanks to everyone who helped to make this year's winter conference a success! Special thanks to Darla Jackson for organizing the entire conference, and for each Board member who worked to make it run smoothly. In addition, thanks to each of the other volunteers who helped set up, record a session, tear down and everything else that makes our conferences serve our community better. As I reflect on this past year at CHEACT, I am becoming keenly aware of our need for volunteers in just about everything that we do. As you set goals for 2002, would you consider giving some of your free time and joining us at CHEACT? Without you, we can only provide conferences and a newsletter. Together we can safeguard, promote and encourage homeschooling that glorifies God in central Texas. Please call or email us with what you would like to do to help. I was encouraged to see those of you with older homeschool students attending our winter conference. We want to help you succeed for your entire homeschool journey. This year, we were able to bring Rodney Marshall, and a representative from the Early Start program at ACC to address the needs of junior and senior high school students and parents. We will continue to focus on providing resources for parents of and students in this age group, as it is arguably the most difficult season to weather as a homeschool parent. As we plan our summer conference in June, it would be helpful to hear what other ways we can better serve you. Please let us know! One resource I would like to recommend to you with older children is a book called "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Robert T. Kiyosaki. The book explores what values and understanding we are passing on to our children regarding money and provision. Although he is a secular author, Kiyosaki provides an interesting perspective on the topic. His web site, www.richdad.com has books and games specifically designed to train our children in this area. These materials would be especially useful during the high school years. If you have other resources that you know about for older students, consider writing a brief article for our newsletter. We look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Graduate image supplied by DiscoverySchool.com |
